Integration enables broadcast and virtual production teams to render real-world locations as photorealistic 3D environments inside Pixotope’s real-time graphics platform

Oslo, Norway - April 26, 2026 - Pixotope, the real-time virtual production software platform for broadcast, has announced support for Volinga’s 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) Plugin, enabling production teams to import and render photorealistic captured environments directly within Pixotope’s Unreal Engine–based workflow. The integration makes Pixotope one of the first broadcast-focused platforms to offer a production-ready pipeline for 3D Gaussian Splatting in live and near-live environments.

3D Gaussian Splatting is a breakthrough technique that reconstructs real-world scenes from photographs or video into dense, photorealistic 3D representations - without the heavy polygon geometry of traditional photogrammetry. By representing environments as millions of optimized 3D points, Gaussian Splats deliver exceptional visual fidelity while maintaining the real-time rendering performance demanded by live broadcast production.
Through the Volinga Plugin for Unreal Engine, Pixotope users can now import 3DGS assets - created using Volinga Suite - and render them in real time alongside traditional 3D content, live camera feeds, and Pixotope’s full suite of broadcast graphics. T The integration supports Volinga’s NVOL and PLY (open) file formats and is compatible with Pixotope Graphics for both Extended Reality (XR) and Virtual Set/Augmented Reality (VS/AR) productions.

“Gaussian Splatting represents a fundamental shift in how production teams can bring real-world locations into virtual environments. By supporting the Volinga Plugin, we’re giving our users the ability to capture a location with a camera or drone and have a broadcast-ready 3D environment inside Pixotope within hours - not weeks. It’s a game-changer for productions that need photorealistic backgrounds without needing traditional CGI.”

Key Benefits for Broadcast and Virtual Production Teams

The Pixotope–Volinga integration delivers several advantages for broadcast workflows. Production teams benefit from dramatically accelerated environment creation, capturing real-world locations and converting them to broadcast-ready 3D scenes in hours rather than the days or weeks required by traditional methods.

The resulting environments offer photorealistic visual quality that surpasses conventional photogrammetry, while maintaining the real-time rendering performance essential for live production.

The integration also supports HDR and professional colour management through Volinga’s ACES and OpenColorIO (OCIO) compatibility, ensuring colour accuracy across the production pipeline. For facilities running XR LED volume stages, 3DGS environments work seamlessly with Pixotope’s multi-machine rendering architecture, providing the scalability needed for high-resolution LED wall productions.

“Pixotope’s solid Unreal Engine pipeline, impressive reliability, and extensive support network make them great partners in splatting innovation going forward. Together, we’re bringing the power of 3D Gaussian Splatting to the broadcast industry at a scale and quality level that simply wasn’t possible before.”
